I have a sears 139.53647srt garage door opener. It is 16 years old. The nylon drive gear finally stripped. Is itt worth replacing the gear, or replace the whole unit. I am mechaically inclined, but can the gear be replaced while the unit is still mounted? Thanks

I think buy a new one in better choice. For its old equipment, maybe you'll hard to find compatible spare part anymore. But its your choice, if you love your door so much, and if you can find the spare part, just change the gear would be okay.
