I have a smartdisk usbflb100 external hard drive, but can't locate the usb cable or the power supply. is it worth trying to find replacements, or should i just move on? i intend to use it as a back up for music and other necessary files
Computers & Internet - SmartDisk - (USBFLB100) 100 GB Hard Drive
You can open the enclosure, and extract the disk-drive, and then attach it as a "slave" disk-drive into any desktop computer, probably just long-enough to copy the less-than-100GB onto your 'C:' drive. Then, buy a new 500GB or 1000GB or 2000GB external drive, for under $100, and backup to it.
Or, you could buy an "empty" enclosure (with a power-supply and a cable), and "transplant" the disk-drive into that new enclosure.
Yes, any external storage device should be used as a "backup" device, i.e., ALWAYS create an ADDITIONAL copy of your important files, rather than INCORRECTLY using the device as the ONLY location for your files.
