I have a Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 Digital Video Camera Recorder with an internal hard drive. Recently it wouldn't hold a charge so we bought a new battery. We put the new battery in to rechange it and we got no lights while it was recharging. Then we realized that there were no lights at all, even if we just had the plug-in directly plugged into the camcorder. So...would the problem be with the plug-in mechanism or with the actual camcorder? Thanks for any assistance you can give. Eric
Video Cameras - Sony - Handycam - Handycam DCR-SR42 Camcorder
There are fuses ,but they are small solder in types, all fx series camcorder have a common problem with the rear power board working it's way loose and unplugging itself from the main board. these units have alot of solder connection issue due to sony's use of poor solder back in the earily 90's
output volts with multimeter as it should be equal to written on back of charger, approx 10V DC
Please check charger output volts with help of digital multimeter as if charger is down, it wont power up camcorder nor it charge battery. If charger output volts are fine then plug charger in AC and output jack in camcorder, turn power switch to either camera or VTR/ playback mode.
if thts not a problem the problem is fuse in camcorder main board that can cause of said symptom.
