This is easy one. Old Optical drives need slowely burned discs like speed x1.
Do not use rw-disks or disks burned sessions. I never burn sessions. Always disk at ones and closing disks. You can lost your files. Sometimes old files do not open or new files do not open.
CDs manufactured by Sony had some copy protection so do not burn music-cds manufactured by Sony.
Old cd-players do not play FLAC- or mp3- files.
Old CD-players can not play disks with too many music tracks. There is limit how many tracks are supported.
The Optical Pickup(laser) may be weak. It takes much more power to record than play, which I guess it works.
