I have a troy-bilt riding mower. I need to install a starter solenoid. there isnt one there and i need to know does the ignition wire go on the starter side or the battery side of solenoid
It has 2 terminals. there is a green wire and the ignition wire.
The big posts TYPICALLY come from the battery... and it has a match "B" wire that has full time battery an internal fusible link (or better... a real fuse) which travels to your IGNITION SWITCH...
Assuming you don't have a starter button (but a MOMENTARY contact (start position)... becomes the "S" lead...
You guessed it... "START" (energizes the SOLENOID).
If you have a volt meter you can see the momentary battery... ELSE use a regular auto bulb or test probe...
Don't connect anything up until you are CERTAIN you have identified which is what "S" or "B" ...(it is pretty easy to VAPORIZE that battery link if to try to POWER THE STARTER DIECTLY... with the "S" solenoid/starter energizer lead.
Good luck...
If you have any questions m '66 Austin Healey has an identical system to one of the Mahindra starters... right down to the rubber booted manual button on the back of the SOLENOID...
Needless to say the HEALEY POLARITY is reversed.. (so it was an incredibly bad example)...
Comment me back... I have the LUCAS (prince of DARKNESS scars to certify my) experience... If ONE can DO Lucas... one can walk on rice paper without leaving foot-prints (grass-hopper).

(No me... but it sounds promising).
