I have a westell 327w and have a laptop that I use wirelessly. It worked in the kitchen now it doesnt. When I bring the laptop near the router then the laptop "finds" the connection. What gives. Is the signal stength being weakening?

Did you introduce new equipment recently--microwaves etc? These could degrade the signals...some paints could degrade signal so if you have painted the kitchen recently this could be part of the problem.
On the other hand it could be your laptop's wifi adapter. I recommend powering off the computer and repowering; reinstalling the driver.
