I have a Yaesu FT-51R purchased in mid-year 1995. The radio works great, but both FNB38 NiCd batteries are no longer usable. The charger stand is a Yaesu CA-9. Is it possible to use FNB38 NiMH batteries with the present combination? If not, what would you recommend?

Yes, it is possible to use the FNB38 NiMH batteries or any other battery as long as it is the same size and the same volt. Once the battery can fit into the radio and charger and has the same volt, then it is definitely going to work.
