I have an 86 ford ranger. After it warms up, it dies. It acts like its not getting any fuel. Kinda spits an sputters when I take off, but clears right up after I get going. If I get stuck at a light to long or get stuck in traffic, it dies, and I can't get it to start for about 15 minutes or so. Please help!!! I'm tired of being stranded!

I had a problem with my 86 bronco II, 2.9EFI. Found it to be the water temp sensor. To test, after warm up, unplug sensor and place a jumper wire between contacts on harness. Sensor is behind upper rad hose on manifold, two wire plug. Then test. Note: Rig will be HARD to start cold without the sensor plugged in.
Mine did the same thing. It is your Ignition control module. it is located on the distributor { the part under the distributor cap that the wires small wiring harness connects to). You will need a special socket tool (5 dollars at parts store). Disconnect battery, Unplug it, take the 2 screws out (DO NOT LOSE SCREWS!!!!!!! They are special heads on them that are smaller and very hard to find replacement) Pull Straight down on the part to remove it (do not pull out or pry outward or you will bend or break the 3 prongs and cost u a distributor and possible computer) go to parts store and have it tested. DO NOT BUY THE CHEAP BRAND. get middle quality at minimum or u will be back to the parts store to do it again in a week. Then MAKE SURE u put the silicone diode grease (included) on the back of it. Installation is opposite of removal.
