I have an Aprilaire 550 that is not working... don't know if the unit is getting water or not or if somethig else is wrong. What steps can I take to check this out. I tried turning the knob to test, then turning on the furnace but no water seems to be getting in. I turned the valve clockwise all the way until it stopped but still no water
You have given us some good clues to start the trouble shooting with you-- THANKS!
So it is obvious thatyo understand that water has to be in the little pan (or sump) that the humidifiying pad runs thru, before you can get any humidification-- RIGHT ON!!
Now-- We HAVE to have water in that pan! Normally a water valve is COUNTER Clockwise to open-- So-- is the little water shut off valve wide open? Is no water flowing at the float valve?
Did you try jigging it, and moving the float?
You may have to shut off the water, and open that up, and clean out debris, or whatever is clogging the float valve---
Once you get water into the pan-- then the little motor and gearbox has to turn the wheel slowly, to get the moisture up into the air stream.
Make a few more observations, and attempts to get water in the pan, and let us know what you have then--
Do you hear the solenoid click. Furnace must be on and humidistat must be up. Do you have the ability to check for 24 volts (2 wires at solenoid). Loosen copper nut at solenoid to see if water is present. (Be careful about water spraying). Loosen nut on humidifier side of solenoid. Could be small blockage in copper line at solenoid.(There is a very small orifice there that could get clogged) Could be Humidistat also. really need voltage meter to check wiring.
