I have an Atco Regent 14 Rotary Mower. Working fine until yesterday when the motor gradually started getting slower and slower and then ended up with just a whirring sound and a little wisp of smoke and smell of electrical burning! This feels like more than brushes wearing down .... ?
The generator makes the particular rotary cutting blades spin so that you can cut turf. Sometimes the particular cut grass penetrates the generator shaft and will either temperature it up to standstill or perhaps clog the particular motor. The motor needs to be checked for almost any foreign things, the armature needs to be rotated to find out if that moves openly.
A smoking rectifier is not good, it will need to be replaced.
The rectifier is required to switch AC (wall power) to unregulated DC.The brushes are the power input to the motor, with the slowing,the brushes are shorted to provide a dynamic break which quickly stops the blades. You will need to test the motor to see if that caused the rectifier to go.
I am not sure what the specs would be for resistance but it should be in the 10 ohm range for a 12 amp motor (120 volts/12 amps=10 ohms)
