I have an FA2B4232 Digital Lifestyles 42" television that just stopped working. I've called two repair shops who will not work on an unknown brand. I don't want to send it back to California for about $500 in order to get another television that is going to have the same problem. The amount of problems I am seeing on the web for these tv sets are prohibitive. Is it typically a bad capacitor on a board?
This tv is WELL known for the bad capacitors. Most newer tv's have had this problem. But the cheaper, the cheaper... Cheaper parts that don't last as long. You can test the capacitors with an ohmmeter/voltmeter to see which one is not in range. Most are usually 25-30 ohms and 5 volts of power. They should all be close to the same either way, so when you find the one that isn't, you can get a difuser, drain all remaining power out of the cap, and solder it off and the new one on.
What exactly is the tv doing or not doing? I can further help if I know a little more info.
Aren't you a nice brother! LOL! Anyways, what color is the power light? Red or Green? Does the power stay on or turn off when pressing buttons? Have you check to see how much power is coming form the power supply/high-voltage transformer? What I mean is, is it a constant voltage power and doesn't drop when pressing any buttons. From the sounds of it. It's either a faulty power supply that may turn on, but not providing enough power to power up the entire tv set. It could be a faulty capacitor, resistor or other components. Hard to determine without testing everything to see what isn't in the right specs. I do not have a manual for this tv, but you can get one at eserviceinfo.com or other sites which may help you sufficiently.
