I have an IPhone 3gs, got my daughters old IPhone 5, she was with Vodafone, I am with O2, ordered a sim to fit from O2, phoned to activate, this morning I have no service on my 3GS but the new phone says sim not valid. Who do I contact? O2 or Vodaphone as I guess the phone is locked in

You have to contact the network provider from whom the iPhone was initially. If the network provider doesn't provide an unlocking solution, You can try to get it unlocked from any private source.
