I have an Whistler XTR radar detector, I cannot get power to the unit from the power outlet on a BMW 528 I just bought, the unit worked on my Lexus. Do I need a special cord?

No special cord is required. Does the lighter socket in the BMW power other 12 volt devices? If so, then check the fuse in the radar detectors power cord plug. If not, then check the BMW's lighter socket fuse to make sure that is working properly.
