I have four of these smoke detectors in my home. They are all hooked together. Yesterday I put new batteries in all four and now they will not stop cherping. After about 8 hours I took the new batteries out and put the old ones back in but the cherping won't stop. I've been listening to this for about 16 hours now and it is driving me crazy. It is also bothering my small dog. What can I do to make them stop?

Three small chirps in one minute intervals means that the unit is needing service. The ion chamber in that unit has a fixed life span and when it expires, that is how it tells you. It is time to replace it. They usually last about 10 years.
