I have had a Denon AVR 588 for some time now. Lately, when I play a movie in the DVD player or play a CD, it sometimes powers off into protection mode. I have a fan on it for ventilation and the unit is cool to touch. I think the problem is when loud action events occur. It is also set to the 5ch mode so all speakers are working together. I cannot find anything in the trouble shooting section to suggest anything other than heat or speaker wires. I don't think that is it. It operates fine for days until the DVD "action" movie gets put in. I have tried new cables, and a new DVD player. Also, once it starts going into protection mode, I turn it on and it keeps happening every few minutes. Even if I play a "non-action" movie or if I play a "peaceful" CD or even the tv it turns off. If I turn it all off and put it back to the tv, it works fine. Anyone know of any special settings I'm missing or any ideas? Thank you all in advance for any reply
What I think is happening is that you have a fault in the main amp somewhere which after a while gets hot and creates an overload situation. It's going to be a tricky thing to spot unless you have a good knowledge of electronics. For example Capacitors can cause such faults. Sometimes you can spot them with the eye. For example the top of them might be bulging out. But unless you know, take it to a trained technician.
