Sometimes the autorun feature in windows is disabled so the cd won't start or the cd wasn't set up right. No problem.
Two ways to fix this. One is to re-enable autoplay if it isn't working or to start the file manually. Autoplay can be enabled from either the drive properties (right clik on drive in my computer then the autoplay tab in XP) or the drives then the autoplay icon in setting if using Vista.
To start it manually you just need to open the cd in my computer or windows explorer and run the setup.exe. If you go to start then all programs then accesories and then click on windows explorer to start it. Now you want to click on my computer to see your drives. Look for your CD/DVD drive. It may show up as Norton. Usually clicking on the drive will start autoplay.
If not then you need to open the drive and run the setup.exe In some cases the manufacturer will run a file in a directory on the cd. If you don't see a setup or other exe when you first open the cd then you want to open the autorun file (open with - notepad) and it will show the location of the file to run and its name. As an example it maybe under a directory called BIN and the file is called install.exe. When you look at that autorun file it would only show something like
cd \BIN install.exe
Usually just opening the drive or clicking on in from explorer does the trick. The autorun file is a bit more involved but works as well.
If you are using Vista then the incompatable programs are windows defender and systemworks. You may not be able to get this installed. Some people do but a lot seem to have problems. If you can return this product for a refund that would be the best thing.
I used to be a real Norton fan but they just do not seem to get anything right since about 03 and there are always problems or glitches and resulting headaches.
There are several excellent programs to use as alternatives. Mcgaffee or Panda as examples. I've had great sucsess with Avast Home. Thats a free download at www.avast.com. It was rated as one of the better av's and was only beat by a few commercial grade av's costing about $600 and up. It's free, it does daily updates (important for any av) and it doesn;t use much in the way of system resources. You can register it and get a years free updates etc, and after that you renew and good for another year. It's hard to beat that ;-]If you are using Vista then the incompatable programs are windows defender and systemworks.
