I have installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled Roxio Easy VHS to DVD several times. I keep getting a " certificate is missing or corrupted please reinstall" message. I am thinking about returning this software because of the inability to get it to work. What do you recommend?
Computers & Internet - Roxio - Easy VHS to DVD for PC
When you use the Add/Remove Program tool to uninstall an application, Windows reads the installation log that was created when you first installed the program and relies on the information contained in the log for direction. Problem is, this usually results in changes made to your Registry being left behind.
Reinstalling the same application after a less than thorough uninstall procedure can sometimes result in registry corruption and other nusances caused by file clutter left behind.
It's always good practice to create a system restore point before installing any new application, which gives you the option of simply "rolling back" the system to its pre-install state. Absent that, I recommend you not rely on Windows' Add/Remove Program tool to handle your uninstalling. Instead, use a third-party utility that does a better clean-up job.
I've had good results with Revo Uninstaller. Revo offers a freeware version in addition to a 30-day trial of it's Pro version.
