True to the above.. also if you have tried to connect several times you may want to delete the saved Wi-Fi connections an start again. Example.. Open Wi-Fi connections and find for network. If you already have it saved, click"forget" then retype your credentials.
Please be sure the WiFi on the tablet is "enabled" as sometimes it is not on. Also make sure that you've enabled Android to save data. I found that my son's would not connect without turning that capability on.

The problem I had is when typing passwords etc you have to keep pressing upper case key for each letter,it reverts back to lower case each time.
