Hello, you can get this fix by opening the back cover of the television to check for dry soldering, it is a likely possibility due to long usage and diets. thanks for asking...
Look for any solder joints that aren't on very well, look for any loose wires, try lightly tapping on the IC (integrated circuit chip) to see if that makes a difference. Cold solder joints are common.
This does sound like a possible power board issue. The board that is attached to the plug-in cord. The solder joints can become weak or have a bad connection, also it is possible and common for capaictors and/or resistors to become overheated through time and eventually wear out. They usually get swollen or have burn marks on the board. They can be tested with an analog meter.

The first place to start is with the interconnects, that is the connections between your DVD player and the monitor. The cables themselves may be faulty or damaged, or it may be the connections inside the TV (from where the cable is plugged to where the video and sound processors are.)
Try different cables if possible, and different types of cables as well (RCA, component, HDMI, etc). Where you have multiple choices (HMDI1 & HDMI2 for example), try both choices to see if you can bring about the same symptoms.
I suggest troubleshooting the connections first and thoroughly because this is the most common problem, and the cheapest fix, that is consistent with your symptoms.
Sounds like an interference issue. Make sure that there are no wires crossing or close to the HDMI cable. Some designs are more sensitive to electric interference than usual. If problem persists then the tuner software may have to be reloaded as firmware bugs are also known to cause this problem. Unfortunately maxent does not give out firmware to the general public. You are gonna have to call them for a service call.
No warranty its a 2005, no HDMI port, no tunner, its a monitor. It may have a tunner board but not for channel up down.No warranty its a 2005, no HDMI port, no tunner, its a monitor. It may have a tunner board but not for channel up down.

Have you removed the DVD and hooked directly to the antenna or cable to rule out the DVD and/or cabling as the culprit??
Thanks!!
Hello,
check the cord that connects the DVD player to the Maxent MX-42M11 Monitor. The cord sometimes looses contact that's why the picture and sound goes.
Simply check the wire connection, maybe its not very firm and occasionally looses contact that's why it fails.
The cord/wire is what you should look out for, when it happens again.
Take care.

Then its possibly a cold solder near the HDMI port then but that still has to do with the tuner. Is the set under warranty?
