I have no text message alert sound on my Samsung S380C. How do I fix this?
All other sounds work including ringer and alarm. When I get a text, it shows up on my screen, but theres no sound alert, even though I have the tone set for it.

I just bought the phone today and even called Straight Talk about it and they put me through all the steps to set it up ( text message alerts) and ~ you guessed it!~ same stuff I'd already done and no results.
If I'd known about this problem I'd have never bought the phone. For people who communicate a lot via texts, this is a major drawback as others have said. Who wants to spend their entire day constantly having to look at the phone to see if any SILENT messages have arrived? It would be o.k. if you had Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and didn't mind but for normal people it's a royal pain in the you know what!
Seems this problem is only with the straight talk version of the S380C, I had a Net10 version before this and the message alert worked perfectly on the one, same with the tracfone version, so I'm inclined to think its in the programming, as my new straight talk one will not alert me, even with the setting properly done
According to straight talk on the samsung website, it does not have a sound alert for voice, mms, or text messages
Well if thats the case why do they you the selection to chose what tone you want for it
I agree, I have the same problem with my Samsung S380C
i did a live chat today with samsung tech support and she said it does have the capabilities, but everything she did to ts with me didnt work... so i called Straight Talk and let them know that per the manufacturer it is supposed to make a sound when texts come thru, they said they were sorry for my inconvenience and that i could just get another phone to replace it for more money... i copied the chat with samsung and still have the packaging from my phone... so before i return it for another phone i will be emailing/calling the BBB since there is obviously something funky going on...........
This isn't a solution but I'm having the same problem an jus got the phone tonight!
No solution but just another complaint to add. My phone also does not vibrate or make a sound on texts. I did notice that while I have headphones plugged into the phone and listen to music then it sometimes will vibrate for a text. So stupid. Royal pain.
Did you pick a sound for you messages?
Ditto. I've had the phone for one week and searched the internet. So far no answers.
i now that does not make any sense who wants to have to keep cheking there phone to see if they have a tex or not it is ridiculous
Mine doesn't work. I wonder if you could use the code entry screen to program it to work. The feature is there it's just disabled for some stupid reason. I imagine it's driven by software
