There is no reason why you cannot run any two stroke on todays two stroke oils ( its not like four stroke engines where you use different oils dependent on the age ) however i am not sure i would run it at 50-1 i would be more inclined to run it at 25-1 as it is an old engine.
I've had a few Homelites 50:1, and 2 were 40:1. go with more oil..even 25:1. if it doesn't stop smoking (more than 2 strokes should) add some gas to your mix. if it pops nice & hot after few secs of running with very little smoke, add oil. too hot can damage things (piston rings) too rich only fouls plugs. well..and exhaust screen if ran that way over time. when you get the ratio, grab a sharpie and write it on an obvious place (on your mixed gas can too). owners manual online for your model # is a good resource too. good luck
