I have replaced the batteries (AAA & Lithium) and when I turn the power on I get the solid block cursor, but nothing I type shows up. It is almost like it is frozen. I have had this for about 16 years and would like to keep it working if possible!

Hey I had at 85 years back when everyone else had an 83. This problem doesn't seem like its dead or forozen. It seems like a contrast problem. I hope for your sake that it is.
Try turning it on; getting the dark screen, and then press second and down. I can't remember on the 85 if you press second and down and then hold down; or press sencond and down back and forth repeatidly. Try both and good Luck!!
