I have several 283's and 285's and none of them will work. I am the original owner, they've never been stored with batteries in them, and the terminals are clean as far as I can tell. They won't work with AA batteries, the LVP2, or AC power. Is the proper answer to just junk them?

No, don't junk them.
Check the On & Off Switch.
These babies are over 30 years old, but they are better than new flashes.

You don't need to junk but sell it on ebay and buy some working 285HV from that money from ebay.
