I have two computers that I want to share my cable internet connection. When connected directly to the modem the first computer conects to teh internet fine. But when I connect the computer to my Belkin wireless G router and the router to the modem it does NOT connect

Perhaps one of your ethernet cables is bad?
When everything is connected, the "WAN" light on your router should go on, as well as the lights for whatever network connections your are using for your computer.
Obviously the cable that you used to connect your computer directly to the modem is working, so try replacing the other one.
