I have two problems. I had System Mechanic 8 on my computer for a year. Nothing bad particularly happened but it was probably because I was running Regcure at the same time and I got suspicious when somany faults were found after a Regcure run. I got fed up with Regcure because it didn't really seem to make a difference and both subscriptions lapsed. I decided to try System Mechanics Professional 9 and bought the packaged software to install. BIG mistake, First off it has its own virus and firewall software and I run Norton 360. It offered me the option of NOT installing the virus protection so I took it. Next when it comes to activation it gives options for a Time Trial, and activate as you install. I didn't have the details from the e-mail so I followed their advice and installed as a time trial to activate later. Even BIGGER msitake. You don't activate by entering the activation code in the software as you do for Regcure, you have to go to their website where the only way of activating is to buy it again!!! It has to be something to do with my e-mail address being assocaited with the version I had on before. Norton has the same problem. You can by-pass this so that the version you have bought is "activated" on their website but it remains inactivated on the computer! However, this is the least of my problems. I ran a first scan and it came up with 1300 odd registry problems. Fine. My compter is certainly running VERY slowly. That's why I was lookign for a cure. So I clicked fix. Jesus. NOTHING works now. Internet Explorer won't work. Norton 360 won't. Audio is gone (but drivers are reported as working. The taskbars went. I got them back but applications won't minimise. Like a fool and in a fit of anger I uninstalled this **** software - forgetting of course that it had the registry backup! Dear God how can professionals write such ****. Am I going to have to re-install? The computer runs much faster now of course. There's no software to run
