I installed a new thermaooupler, I can light the pilot, but when I release the button, the pilot goes out. I've made the coupler red hot and nothing, what else can I try? Could the thermacoupler be bad?

It could be about three things...
The new thermocouple is bad
The gas valve was bad to start with and the problem was not the thermocouple
Or you didn't get he new thermocouple started into the gas valve right. It is easy to get it cross threaded.
Take the thermocouple back out of the gas valve and try to make sure you get it threaded in straight. and thighten firmly.
