I just bought an Eagle Elite 480 and I can't get a satellite signal on the GPS. Everything else works fine. I tried auto search, nothing works. I get one bar on status and it goes from 3 to 31 and then back to 3.that's it. I thought it was because I had trees in my yard, but all is clear on the water and still no luck. The manual tell me to put in the correct date and time, but when I try an error comes up telling me it needs to have a position before I can set time and date. Please help. Thanks Joe Juliano
Something is not right there. The trees shouldn't cause that much of a problem and on open water you should be seeing a lot of signals and satellites. That means either the antenna has a issue or the unit needs to be reset or hasn't initialized properly. If this is a brand new unit I would just take it back and exchange it. There is no reason for it to behave this way so anything that might fix it might just be a temporary thing.
You can try a hard reset which will reload the operating system and then the unit will reload the satellite data. However that low signal means either you have no coverage or you are not getting a signal which means there is something wrong with the antenna.
The more I think about this the more I am thinking to take it back to the store is your best "fix". A new unit should just work period from any manufacturer so there is something not right with this one.
