The simplest thing you could do is inspect the connectors to the sensors. You can also try cleaning the intake and the sensors using carb cleaners or tuner cleaner. Check also for vacuum hoses that may have gone bad or could be loose.
Thanks for your suggestion. It actually ended up being the catalytic converters. And since there are two, not an inexpensive repair. Rather than have two new built-to-fit units installed which included exhaust pipe lengths for about $1500 total, I opted to have the shop cut off the old ones and weld new units on for the "bargain" price of $800 out the door. Gas mileage went up almost immediately, check engine light went out after a few days and I passed the Colorado emissions test easily.
