I just had this Valor g4 installed yesterday. First of all, when I use the remote to turn it on, does the setting have to be in "temp" position on the remote?
No, I have mine in manual mode, then hit the red (off) key and large flame key ( top right) at the same time. You should hear a click followed by a series of clicks as the pilot light turns on and then the gas valve opens and it should light. Having said that, I happen to have two that were installed at the same time. Unfortunately one has a bad remote control. I found that out after switching and syncing the remotes to the other insert. The good remote works on both and the bad one on neither. The bad remote would not let me set the time.
