I just had windows vista reinstalled on my laptop and now my wifi is not working.. I have the gateway model MD2614u. I think I need to download an adapter for it, but not sure which one.. can you help

Yes you need to install the Driver for Wireless LAN card. You can download the driver from your computer manufacture website.
