I just installed my new bose companion 5 2.1 speakers and while playing music the sound cuts out, then comes back in. the machine is a 16 gig 64 bit machine so i imagine it's not a matter of memory - so why do my speakers cut out? I notice that it could be only at higher volumes - am testing thast theory out now. help? thank you for sharing your wisdom, whoever you are!
If its only at high volume i would suspect its your outlet. you maybe drawing too much power from the plug, and when the voltage drops the bose will protect itself and go into standby until the voltage returns. try moving the bose to another place in the house.
long term fix i would run a signal cable under the carpet in proximity to another outlet.
cut out at low volume may be heat related or a bad MOSFET in the driver system. if its a new system return to Bose if its a used system, then thats the reason you got a bargan.
if your comfortable with a soldering iron open her up, desolder the affected part (the one that looks like smoke was let out) and order another part of the same number from mouser or radio shack.
