I just purchased an Alesis QS7 on eBay. Upon receiving
I just purchased a QS7 on eBay. It is a music keyboard with built in sounds/samples. Upon receiving the QS7 I immediately hooked it up to my rig and turned it on. The sound that came out surprised me. It produced a static like howl. I thought at first that it was some kind of a feedback loop. I tested it with headphones. Same result. As I played some of the keys I could hear the desired sound, very faintly behind the loud static type sound.
After about approximately 1 minute the sound went away and the unit behaved normally. I returned to it about an hour later with the same result. It seems to work fine after a minute or so passes.
Do you have any idea what the problem is. The seller has been a major pain in the neck so I don't want to return it, but I am prepared to do so if necessary. Any ideas on what the problem is? Is this normal?
Thanks

The unit needs to be repaired. Since it is a thermal problem, you can likely find the bad part with circuit cooler. See if the volume control affects the loudness of the howl... If it does, probably an op-amp in the preamp before the volume control is sick. If it doesn't affect it, then the output amps are suspect. Also check the power adapter.
