I just used my rex rx-518 for the first time. The directions ****, but I got it working and I love the way it hems. HOWEVER, the motor got hot and started to smoke after a while. That worries me. Also, I have no way to contact the company. It claims to have a five-year warranty, but there is no contact information whatsoever and no way to register it. PLEASE HELP! Thanks
The direct wholesale importer for the REX RX518 blindstitch hemmer (and the same company who is possibly involved in its manufacture) is Artek Sewing Machine Supply in Brooklyn, NY (800-221-9440). ---------Artek seems to be the only company with whom to speak about this machine. They sell and "service" the RX518 (which may mean throwing them away and giving out another if they feel like it)! It is a company that does business as both "REX" and "Artek."---------- Also as you mentioned that motor getting hot.For this check the motor connections. If the motor wiring is loose anywhere then that is the cause of motor getting hot.Reconnect the motor wiring. Also the motor is 110 volt part.Measure the voltage of motor by meter, when motor is cool before running the machine,if the voltage differs then this problem is related to internal motor coils. There is a copper winding coil in the motor.that coils gets old and gets weak so they overheat. But if the machine is new then get it checked by the store, also the contact details for service center is provided. But if no help from there then, you will have to get the motor checked by local electric parts repairing tech.If its faulty then he will provide spare compatible motor which supports your machine.------------ This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.
