If the lights turn on and the motor does not turn, no way it can be the switch. The lites went on, didn't they? And that is the same switch as the motor!
Look for a possible fuse in the motor line or a thermal switch that may have opened when drill ran too slow and overheated.
Maybe the motor is dead - check that out by hooking up direct to a known good dc power supply - a laptop power supply will do - don't worry about the correct polarity when you conduct the test - that only affects the rotational direction of motor.
