I need help with my Elna 6400 sewing machine. It is threaded, and the bobbin thread is where it should be, but when I sew it only leaves holes in the fabric
I took the bobbin case out-cleared any dust or thread, put it back in-it sewed for a couple of inches, so I thought it was ok. Turned it off and turned it back on -it wouldn't work again. Same thing happened to my husband. He did further cleaning of dust-reinserted the bobbin case and we rethreaded. At first it wouldn't even pull up the bobbin thread, finally did that-sewed for a couple of inches. Turned it off and then on again. It wouldn't work again. Please help. I LOVE this machine.

Check to make sure that your bobbin is turning the right direction. It is so easy to get them in backwards.
If that does nothing to help, you may have a timing issue, in which case, it will probably have to be repaired. When you used the machine last, did you sew something particularly thick or break a needle? Things like that can throw the timing off. What doesn't make sense is, when you turn it off and back on again, it quits working. Can you sew more than a few stitches once you get it going? And if so, are the stitches normal, or are they bunchy Or is it turning itself off?
