I need to buy a new MBBS Thermador Microwave
I understand this model has been discontinued. I have the Thermador oven/warming drawer and mocrowave combo and the microwave died. I need a new one and was told that this is the only one that would fit into this unit. Any suggestions on if I can get a new one or what will fit in this unit as a replacement??? the microwave is 23 1/2 wide Help! I don't want to have to replace the whole unit

I spent the better part of three days trying to find a microwave that will fit and it's hard because so many are on line only. Last night I successfully installed the 2.2 cu. ft. GE profile counter top unit with inverter technology. The unit is an exact match, the Thermador even fits in the GE box with the styrofoam! I installed the venting materials for the side and rear vents and the platform at the bottom. I put the clips and decorative molding on and it's perfect! I found it in stock at Lowe's for $198. I took me about 45 minutes total to install. If I can do it, anyone can - 48 year old mom with 5 kids!
I replaced the defective Thermador MBBS microwave with the Kenmore Elite model 721.66463500. This Kenmore microwave's cabinet has the exact physical dimentions as the Thermador. The controls are also very similar to the Thermador that it replaced. I suspect it was manufactured by the same company that built the Thermador.
Since it was an exact replacement, it fairly easy to adapt the old ducting to the new unit.
Replaced with LG LCRT2010ST purchased at Home Depot for $199. Used Thermador Trim Kit with minor modifications. Looks like a match, ant the LG works great.

This worked perfectly $209 from Best Buy. I had to cut the original Thermador trim kit (circa 2003) but fits perfect. Also the original MBBS was produced by LG. Basically the same technology.
Can you help me? I bought the LG model but am having a hard time with getting the bottom metal on. The LG feet do not come out. How did you modify the metal to fit?
Fix it Don is a genius! I went to Sears, picked up an Elite Microwave for $199 and switched out my old MBBS Thermador. To fix the old one was going to cost $495, and a new MBES was $649 plus another $300 or so for the trim kit. So I wound up saving a lot of money.
It is obvious that the Elite and Thermador are virtually the same units. However, the backs of the units are slightly different, so you will have to use Tin snips or a sabre saw to make some cuts in the rear ducts of the trim kits.. Also, the cord is a few inches shorter so have an extension cord at the ready. But it was very easy. Also, note that the Kenmore elite logo on the front is attached by tape and easy to remove!
I just replaced the Thermador MBBS unit with a Kenmore Elite #7920 from Sears. The Kenmore was an easy replacement with some trimming of the vent kit on the right. It looks perfect and blends really well.Took less than 30 mins to complete.
I just replaced my Thermadore with a GE Profile PEB2060SSBB from Home Depot for $269.00 after a 10% discount. It fits like it belongs there. Pull the plastic feet out of the bottom and the platform bottom bolted right on. Cut & bent out a little of to the back tin venting. Some of the previous top pieces were glued and sepertating from the old microwave took a little extra work. The stainless steel model is extra $$$ but that is what my wife wanted. It looks great and I think the black with the previos stainless steel trim kit would look good as well.
just replaced our 6 year old Thermador MBBS ($750) with a GE JES2051SNSS from Home Depot ($179). The bottom guide piece from the Thermador bolted right on the bottom of the GE and positioned the new unit so the front trim piece fit perfectly.
There is a replacement thermador that will fit but you will have to buy a new trim kit to receive the new microwave one year ago my microwave started sparking inside i called a repair man from percys in worcester a thermador qualafied tech he told us we needed a new microwave as ours was unrepairable i ordered a new one 800 dollars special order waited 3 weeks for delivery and then attempted install the unit fit in the hole but trim wouldnt go i was told i had to but trim kit 400 dollars i was pissed i returned the microwave and started asking questions one tech i talked to said clean your wave guide shield i did and the micro works. until today now it is humming and wont heat food. why when i took the micro apart were the internal parts labeled LG i thought i was buying a quality brand. good luck
I would contact Thermador customer service ans ask if they have "drop-in" replacement or something close.
Thermador customer service is online here or you can call them at 1-800-735-4328.

Replaced my MBBS with a GE PEB2060SM1SS for $127 at home depot. repair man wanted $ 109 just to come out to the house. Like stated above a small adjustment to the vent with tin snips and it slides right in to the same spot and trim fits great.
out. The micro is bolted to sheet metal that is formed as an upside down u under the feet. Do not try to unbolt the micro. Instead unscrew the 3 sheet metal screws that hold the sheet metal. Now you can just slide the unit out. Much easier to unbolt the sheet metal when it is out.
I just replaced my Thermadore with a GE Profile PEB2060DMBB from Home Depot for $169.00 and it fits like it belongs there. Everything bolted right on with no modifications at all.
The stainless steel version is $100 more. I bought the black version and it looks perfect with the stainless trim kit that was part of the Thermadore system.
Amana and frigidaire appear to make microwave the same size as the MBBS. While the size of the new thermodor microwave MBES is a minor difference from the old one, the new required trim kit is 2" taller. I will bring my thermodor trim kit to the appliance store and try and find a replacement. the Amana AMC2206BAS $299 appears like it may fit. Mine is under the counter, so I am less concerned about the appearance. I now realize buying a $700 microwave and a $250 trim kit was a total waste of money. Microwaves are disposable ****.
just replaced my MBBS with a GE Monogram. It's a $450 microwave but I bought the floor model for $340. The face is nearly identical to the MBBS model. The back of the machine was slightly diffent in shape and required some tin snip cutting, but very minor, tofit the install kit of the MBBS. I was very please with the outcome. Used Duct tape to tape the MBBS install kit to the microwave, but the unit works great with the thermodor trim kit.
