If your watching older movies they may not be able to properly format to the newer version of your tv. I have ran into similar issues with movies. On our newer model tv it is a button called MORE on your remote. Press it and a list of options will appear on the screen. On ours its # 0 for FORMAT. If you continue to hit which ever one is your format button it will automatically surf through the different formats your tv has available. I hope this helps.
It depends on the video input source + maybe just settings try the remote or menu look for aspect ratio screen size set on 16:9 ratio aspect if its a 1920 by 1080 it should be 16:9 play with the screen setting and buttons on the remote each tv maker is different !
