In the front of the car the suspension component or piece that connects to the strut provided the car has struts is called the spnindle carrier, (front wheel drive vehicles). If the car has just shock absorbers (non front wheel drive cars) the component or piece is called the lower control arm that connects to the lower part of the shock. If you are asking about the rear suspension there are two types dual wish bone or trailing arm type. the dual wish bond is virtually identical to the front wheel drive type suspension the strut connects to a spindle carrier for trailing arm rear wheel suspensions the shock mounts to either the drive axle or the trailing arm itself.
