The battery on the remote is on a 'tray" that can be pulled out. The tray is on the back of the unit, at the bottom. There is a click-catch that you need to squeeze while you grab the edge of the tray. Use your fingernail to hold/squeeze the catch laterally before you pull the tray out. Make sure you replace the "button battery" on the try with the correct side up. Then slide the tray back into the slot and make sure it snaps into place.
