I own a 2005 Chevy Equinox with 83,000 miles. It has decided to just not start and their is a lock on the dashboard. Took it to the Chevy Dealer repair the guy stated it could be the ignition switch, it also has a kill switch? Is it worth getting it repaired for the $300-500 that will come out my pocket???

WELL ALL NEWER CARS HAVE THE SAME THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM.PUT ANOTHER KEY IN IGNITION SWITCH.TURN ON THE IGNITION SWITCH TO ON POSITION FOR 10 MINUTES WHEN THE SECURITY LOCK DISAPPEAR.THEN TURN OFF IGNITION FOR 5 SECONDS AND START ENGINE.WELL I HAD BCM REPLACED.COST $600.00 DOLLARS.BUT IF YOU HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY OR IF YOU BOUGHT VECHICLE BRAND NEW.YOU SHOULD HAVE 100000 MILE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY COVERAGE SHOULD NOT COST YOU ANY THING.BUT GO TO DEALERSHIP.CHECK TO SEE ARE YOU PROTECT UNDER WARRANTY.DONT LET THEM FIX VECHICLE FIRST.CHECK MAKE SURE YOU COVERED.
This is a common problem with the new Chevy ignitions --- sometimes it is the ignition switch and sometimes it is the microchip inside the key itself. your best and cheapest way to get this fixed is to call a automotive locksmith and have them come out to your vehicle and determine if it is the key or the switch,,, either way it will only take 30 minutes to change out the ignition - or 10 minutes to re-program the key to the car. on the low end it will cost you 85 dollars -- on the high end it should not be more then 145 dollars ( this is with the new switch ).
