I own a 2007 Ion. Many times when I am stopped at a light the engine will begin to idle rough. Then I will hear something vibrating either in the engine compartment or behind the dashboard. If I put the car in neutral, the rough idle and the noise instantly goes away
What you have is a broken engine mounting. To verify this
You need another person with you inside the car
pop the hood
start engine
press accelerator all the way down (YES LEAVE CAR IN PARK AND HAND BREAKS UP)
You'll notice the engine pop violently this is cause of one the mountains broken
PUT CAR IN DRIVE , HAND BREAKS UP, press the brake all the way down then the accelerator, you will notice the engine push up, back then down violently,, Broken mountain
Put car in reverse, press brake all the way down then the accelerator engine will move violently again.
Replace broken engine mounts.
in idle while the car is in drive it will vibrate, in neutral no cause the pressure is released. Also when changing gears , the engine will move violently when the engine mount is broken
Replace Broken Mounts.
