I ran my key fob thru the washing machine and my wife threw it away. I found one in the junk yard which looks the same but I've been unable to program it. I also disabled the factory alarm system to stop the alarm without the old fob. Does this affect programming or am I doing something wrong? Is there anyway to find the correct part number for my FOB? I have a 96 GMC Jimmy
Let your other half know that if it happens again, cracking the case, removing the battery and placing it open in a warm place should restore it. If not, buy a jug of distilled water (zero minerals), bathe the fob in it and repeat the drying process.
The dealer can re program a new set of fobs for your car the bad part is it will cost you some cash
other option open colum up have 2 keys cut
take 1 remaining original key place in colum on top of ignition place cut key in ignition and start failing this move fob arround ignition untill car starts once fob location found tape it in place
