I recently heard that the EV-757 was the best mic ever made for vocals. What compares to it or even surpasses it in the new line of EV mics? Also, are the new ones American made like the old ones?
Don't know if I'd go that far. Microphones (like other gear) has specific design characteristics. The EV757 is a great mic and is best suited for female vocals (or Art Garfunkle). I paid $190 in the early 90's ($390 retail). I like dynamic mics for their ruggedness and no ned for phantom power. A condenser mic like a Neumann U87 cost $3,000 but faithfully reproduces. "Best" can only be used in conjunctioon with "for a particular purpose"
