I recently purchased a graphics card for my PC. The new graphics card required me to upgrade my power supply, which I did successfully. However, the graphics card isn't working. When it is installed, the monitor will not acknowledge that it is receiving a signal. I have tried both the original vga plug and the new plug in the video card, nothing. It just remains black then tells me that it's going to sleep. Help! What has gone wrong? I have tried disabling the onboard chips, still nothing. I have an HP PC with Intel, running Vista. The computer is a couple years old. The newly purchased graphics card is an ATI Radeon 5550 (recommended to me by an associate at Frys)

Since you successfully disabled the onboard video card and the card is not working, remove the card, enable your old card and re-install the drivers for ATI Radeon. Disable your on board card again and install the new card.
Also, try the ATI card in another computer to see if the card is faulty.

If you installed the Vista drivers for your ATI Radeon 5550, the card should work. Sorry that you don´t have another computer to test (most people don´t, but I thought i´d ask). Perhaps it is time to return the card.
