I recently purchased (online) from Best Buy a Lasonic ATL 850 9" wide-screen digital TV. I can only get (Los Angeles) channels 2,4,&5. When I tried to program channels 7,9,11 &13 the message comess up "No Channel" What is the problem? Help, I'm desperate. Thank you

The channel is the frequency where that tv station is transmitted - so either there's nothing on that channels or the signal is too weak. The programs are the location in the tv's memory where those channels are stored.
If you want to program all your available channels to fill the first available programs on your tv you can do that in the menu.
Yes, to view them you have to perform a new scan to find and memorize them. If during the scan those channels do not appear then their signal is too weak - either change the location of the tv or use a better antenna.
Problem is that you are not receiveing a strong enough signal for TV to lock on to those channels,What are you using to receive Signal from?
Antenna-/cable/ satellite?
