You might try backing up all data(contacts, pictures, video, music, etc) and then "hard" reset the device. You might able to "hard" reset the device w/out help from your carrier. Just check your settings for any "reset" options. After you have successfully reset the device back to factor default, try the battery again.
If you are still experiencing problems, check with your wireless carrier for a software update. If the software is corrupt, it will give you glitches such as you are experiencing. Worse case scenario is you have to replace your device.
