I don't know what model you have, but on my Bernina there is a button that turns off the lights. You could accidentally have pressed it, and then the lights are out forever until you hit it again!
On mine, the button is found on the back of the machine, on the left (needle) side, at the top. It has a picture of a light bulb on it. So, if you are in front of your machine, stand up and peer over the top of the machine on the back toward the left end and look for a push-button. If you don't see one, then please reveal your model number. Let me know if this helps! Laurie
