I think I ruined my ME Super?
I purchased a cleaning kit at Ritz camera so I could clean my ME Super and I made the big mistake of using the cleaning solution on the mirror and the opaque (plastic?) area over top the mirror and now it is extremely smudged! I can't get the smudges off. It look horrible when I look through the view finder. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem??? Why would they sell a solution that would make such a mess?

The lens cleaning solution probably is just that. A solution. Very fe claening agents will not leave a deposit behind unless they are wiped away. This is impossible in the textured surface of the screen.
Cleaning the screen is a job for experts only you should never even think about doing it yourself!
To clean the screen it must be removed fromthe camera. For this model the camera needs to be taken apart to do this. If you are lucky, the screen can then be properly cleaned in a ultrasonic tank using special cleaning agents, and then rinsed clean with distilled water.
To see how to open the camera up for repair and how to do this properly there is a camera repair site which deal with this and other cameras in detail. alternatively you can contact the author who can offer a very competitive camera repair service for these models.
Not sure about melting it........ i would be concerned about removing the special coating on the lens. i managed to ruin a digital camera that was tho it was not an expensive one... it still works but the quality of the pictures just isn't the same. be that as it may... use a very clean lint free cloth and a lite amount of water to polish the lens.... it may just be a clouding on the lens that needs to be removed.

Still the same idea.... it is perhaps clouding.... some of the solution you have appled as dried on the mirror. clean it with something other then the solution....

If the mirror is actually glass... that does seem to be a high end camera.... use a good quality glass cleaner ONLY on the mirror to remove the smudges.... i would tend to agree with you that the cleaning solution has probably "melted" the plastic. i have to point out the merely obvious as you are already aware of it but if i'm cleaning something with a solution i'm not sure of.... restrict it to a very small test area and watch for material transfer from what i'm cleaning onto the surface of what i'm using to clean it with.
I am curious about one thing.... was there no warning on the cleaning solution container about the types of surfaces NOT to use it on. Get out your magnifiying glass you may need it.
