I updated the bios for my packard bell easy note laptop, model L4014. The laptop now just boots and reboots. It seems to have lost my drives. How do I resolve this problem

Go into your bios and have a look at your boot order, when you do a bios update, usually it sets bios to default setting, most of the time making dvd drive 1st boot rather then hdd. might help.
