I was in Dallas Texas and turned off my GPS. I arrive in Baltimore Airport and reinstalled my GPS. At this point of time it still showed the Dallas Airport area and would not resink up to Baltimore. I drove up to PA and still displayed Dallas Airport Area. Today it finally reset and is now working as it did before. Can you explain what happed and will this happen again?
When its receives a signal from a satellite it receives also information about satellite positions in the coming days. When you boarded the plane you must have turned off the GPS, so it could not keep track of your position. You land a long distance away and turn GPS on. It starts to search for the satellites according to the information stored in it that pertains to their positions over Dallas. It is unable to lock on the satellites. And then it was able to receive GPS signals from other satellites and all fell into place.
Yes it will happen again if you travel long distances in a short period of time. If you cannot keep it turned on during the trip, you should try to update satellite positions through Internet after you reset the time zone. You should also be patient, and give it time to find its bearings.
